If you like your hikes with a mix of abandoned industry, geology, and a touch of Batman’s real estate portfolio, this loop is for you.
We left the car at the northern entrance, just next to Moshav Megadim, crossed Highway 4 (always the most extreme part of any Israeli hike), and entered the trail. The route first takes you past an abandoned quarry — nature slowly reclaiming what humans left behind — and then into the dry streambed of Nahal Sfounim.
The highlight is Sfounim Cave, a surprisingly spacious cavern with stalactites, stalagmites, and a healthy population of bats who seem unimpressed by human visitors. The trail climbs gradually, partly shaded, until you reach the high point: Cliff Megadim (Tzuk Megadim). From here, the Mediterranean stretches out in full panorama — perfect for photos or for pretending you’re the first person to “discover” it.
On the way down, there’s a bonus stop: Megadim Cave, a smaller but still charming hole in the rock, like the little sibling of Sfounim.
All in all: a pleasant circular hike, with caves, shade, views, and just enough bats to keep things interesting.
