Nondik gertu Wootton Fitzpaine, England (United Kingdom)

The Carmarthen Ramblers explored the pretty Dorset countryside just north of Lyme Regis. There was a choice of a gentle 5-mile linear walk, ending at a quaint 15th-century pub, or an eight-mile circular walk. From Lyme Regis, they drove 7 miles on the B3165 to a quiet woodland car park near Wootton Hill. They left the car park on a quiet lane and soon turned down the track to Dodpen Farm, where they spent a little time enjoying an interesting private sculpture park. From there they followed paths past Wyld Warren back to the B3165 and followed along it a short way to paths leading off to Higher Stonebarrow, Roughmoor Cottage, and on to Hawkmoor. They then continued on to the charming 15th-century Bottle Inn – site of the annual World Nettle Eating Championships! Here those doing the 5-mile walk stopped and arranged a ride back for a 3 mile journey to their starting point. The longer walk continued on quiet paths past Nash Farm and made a gradual climb up to the high point of the day – past the site of Lambert’s Castle Fort onto Lambert’s Castle Hill (256m). They enjoyed the views and then descended on paths past Fishpond Bottom and Coney’s Castle Fort, making their way back to the forestry car park.
